XIV Olympic Games 1948 London (GBR) 29th July - 14th August
First Olympic Games after the World War II. Defeteated Germany and Japan were not allowed to compete.
London was awarded the 1944 Olympic Games, but War stopped that games. In March 1946 the IOC, through a postal vote, gave the Summer 1948 games to London.
Soviet Union intialy declared intention to compete.
